The Château Single Vineyard Merlot 2024
$40.00 / bottle
The Château Single Vineyard Merlot 2024 is from a select parcel of Merlot grown in the Eden Valley’s cool climate, which was identified by our wine tasting panel for its exceptional varietal character and complexity.
WINEMAKING
The grapes are destemmed but not crushed, and spend seven days on their skins in open fermenters with regular battonage to more gently extract colour, flavours and tannins.
Following fermentation, the wine is carefully basket-pressed before maturation in a combination of new and seasoned French oak barrels for 10 months.
TASTING NOTES
The Château Single Vineyard Merlot displays deep, rich purple and red hues.
The bouquet has lifted aromas of baked plums, blackberry, and Middle Eastern spice on a velvety smooth palate with hints of cedar and musk. Medium bodied, the extensive finish is framed by elegant, fine-grained tannins from 12 months’ maturation in a combination of new and seasoned French oak barrels.

The effortless ease of a slightly lighter-bodied cabernet that is typical of Eden Valley is evident immediately. The cooler climes have produced a wine that is elegant and most stylish. Slightly plummy blackberry notes on the nose with a palate that is integrated and smooth as it proceeds effortlessly to a long focused finish. Cellar: 12 years

The Cabernet vines used here are from an estate vineyard in the Eden Valley, 32 select rows. After fermentation, the wine spends a year and a half in a mix of new and older French oak barrels. 2,800 cases.
A deep garnet, the nose is full of blackberries, tobacco leaves, dark berries, dried herbs, a little chocolate and fresh coffee grinds. For a relatively warmer climate (certainly, Eden Valley is a little cooler than if it had come directly from the Barossa), this has surprising and pleasing elegance. There is a seductive texture, medium length and fine tannins. Drink over the next six to eight years.
