150 Year Old Vines Grenache 2019

$280.00 / bottle

The 150 Year Old Vines Grenache is from one of the oldest known blocks of Grenache in the world, planted in 1858. This small block in the famous Stonegarden vineyard in the Eden Valley is home to classified ‘Ancestor’ vines, dry grown as bush vines on their original rootstock.

Seamless floral and spicy complexities, with hints of fruits of forest, pepper and ginger snap. The palate displays the full range of dark berries and Mediterranean herbs with perfect balance between tannin texture and length.

The block yields just over 1 ton of grapes in the best of vintages, which are hand-picked into small picking baskets to optimize fruit health.

It’s exquisitely polished in its styling, showing dark berry, dried herb, charcuterie, roasted almond and rich floral aromas. The palate is both lavish and refined with terrific concentration and silky flow, wonderfully framed by finely pitched tannins. Mouthfilling and delicious, making it hugely appealing. At its best: now to 2039.

These old Grenache vines are some of the oldest in the world and they have been used to wonderful effect to create an exceptional wine. Rose petal, red berry and a little dusty dry earthy on the nose. The palate is medium to full bodied with lifted red fruits dominant. Silky smooth and effortlessly long. Simply superb.

Ancient Barossa Grenache is one of the world’s hottest wines and gems like this show just why that is. Deep maroon, this is all spices and herbs. Notes of milk chocolate, strawberries and cream, raspberries and more. A fine structure and impressive length, with a classically varietal mix of silk and sandy tannins. A lingering finish. Very attractive and sure to provide superb drinking over the next seven to ten years.

Medium crimson, Attractive musky red plum, strawberry aromas with some savoury notes. Beautifully concentrated and complex with supple red berry fruits, slinky textures, lovely mid-palate viscosity and fresh long acidity. A touch of aniseed at the finish. Drink now–2029

Deep ruby, bright from core to rim. Blood plum, smoked brisket and vanilla pod aromas. Dense and powerful yet with a lift that beguiles and intrigues. Dark fruits, meaty notes and exotic dark spices are all melded together along a line of velvet tannins that build into a crescendo of character that lingers for an eternity. 2024-2036

More please! While Château Tanunda is an obvious Shiraz specialist, it also has access to some incredible, old vine Grenache. This ‘young’ five-year-old highlights the innate beauty of the grape, capitalising on its naturally buoyant nature. Lively aromatics in lavender and juniper with aromas of roasted plum, black cherry, spice, black pepper, earth and cedary oak. Comes alive in detail to taste and, while obviously full bodied, the fine tannin profile works well in delivering a balanced whole. The role of spice is elevated and quite delicious. This full-bodied red has rich aromas of mocha, stewed plums, chili jam and warm spices. It’s soft and warming on the palate, with gentle tannins and a more mellow, salty finish. Delicious now.
