The Château Single Vineyard Shiraz 2024
$40.00 / bottle
Château Tanunda was established in 1890 and is the site of the very first vines planted in the Barossa in the 1840s. ‘The Château’ is a heritage icon, the grand buildings, magnificent gardens and vineyards are owned by the Geber family who continue a tradition of fine winemaking spanning three centuries.
Vineyard
For The Château Single Vineyard Shiraz we select only the best fruit from the the sandy loam soils of our 12 ha Vine Vale vineyard which was first planted in 1960. This Barossa sub-region is renowned for producing elegant and finely structured styles of Barossa Shiraz.
Winemaking
Hand-picked from select rows. The grapes are destemmed but not crushed and fermented for seven days in open fermenters with regular plunging and remontage. Upon completion of fermentation, the skins are gently basket-pressed before maturing for 18 months in a selection of finest French oak barrels.
TASTING NOTES
This is an opulent, full-bodied wine with lifted aromas of blackberry, blueberry and cracked pepper supported by spicy, dark berry fruits on the palate. The extensive finish is framed by elegant fruit and fine-grained tannins. Although drinking well now this wine will benefit from medium-term cellaring.
