Terroirs of the Barossa ‘Greenock’ Shiraz 2022
$60.00 / bottle
The most westerly zone of the Barossa, known as the Western Slopes, gives rise to some of the richest expressions of Shiraz from the Barossa.
To ensure the unique character of this sub-region is exemplified in the wine, small open fermenters and our basket press were employed to gently extract the wine. Ageing in the finest quality oak and selection of the truest barrels has created a wine that respects and expresses its place of origin.
Soil: Heavy brown earth, red clay and crackled ironstone
Altitude: 290m
The dark, brooding regional characters of plum, red cherry and liquorice are all to the fore of this wine.
The palate is focused and linear, with dark bitter chocolate notes and an elegant long persistent finish. We recommend cellaring for 10 years.

Richly fruited and enticing, the wine shows black/blueberry, violet, smoked game, cedar and espresso aromas, followed by a concentrated palate offering terrific power and opulence, well framed by layers of polished tannins, finishing long and brooding. At its best: now to 2037.

Medium-deep crimson. Blackberry, chinotto, hint negroni-like aromas with liquorice notes. Supple blackberry, strawberry, cola, liquorice flavours, very good mid-palate volume and fine chalky/chocolaty tannins. Firms up to a bittersweet finish. Very good density and flow. Should have wide appeal. Drink now–2032

Also from the Terroirs series is this delicious offering from the Greenock sub-region, well known for its alluring richness. Maturation was a year and a half in a mix of French and American oak barrels.
The colour is purple maroon. The nose exhibits wonderfully generous and approachable aromas of mocha, chocolate, dusty warm earth, blackfruits, plums, florals and raisins. A medium weight style with a lingering finish. Hopefully time will give it an extra level of intensity, but it seems a bit churlish to be too picky. The flavours are immensely appealing. Drink over the next eight to ten years.

This is just delicious. You want to get another glass. It’s a soft and generous wine with ripe mulberry and dark plum characters liberally sprinkled with spices and subtle dried herbs. The palate has a steely minerally thread through its lavish combination of dark chocolate and ripe plum. Tannins have a slightly chalky edge to provide balance.
