The Château Single Vineyard Eden Valley Chardonnay 2023

$40.00 / bottle

WINEMAKING
Hand-picked from select rows in our cool climate Eden Valley vineyard, the grapes are lightly basket pressed (20% whole bunch) before fermentation takes place in barrel. Regular lees stirring and 8 months maturation in new and seasoned French oak barriques give the wine added complexity.

TASTING NOTES
Delicate, classic aromas of white peach, opulent pear and toasty brioche all leading on to a sumptuous creamy palate of layer upon layer of lemon, citrus fruit and vanilla notes all balanced with a clean, mineral intensity that you always expect from this vineyard.

The seamless balance of understated oak never overstates, and whilst the current youthful exuberance of the fruit gives it an appealing freshness this wine will develop further complexity over the next 5+ years.

Beautifully styled and elegantly fragrant, the wine shows ripe stone fruit, lemon peel, nougat and roasted cashew aromas, followed by a finely textured palate that's delightfully ripe and generous. Well supported by juicy acidity, finishing flavoursome and fabulously drinkable. At its best: now to 2030.

Pretty good year in the Barossa has created this exceptionally smart chardonnay. Melony cereal flavours with a stone fruit and quince paste combination adding intrigue into the palate. It's got great intensity and delivers with a slightly soft and rounded palate to any modern chardonnay.

From a single vineyard in the Eden Valley, 20% whole bunches were included in fermentation, which took place in barrel. Lees stirring and then eight months maturation in a mix of new and older French oak barriques. Just 665 cases.
The colour is a shining yellow gold. This is a fine Chardonnay, taut, poised and a slightly leaner style. There is a hint of oak evident. Notes of cinnamon and nutmeg with white peaches and florals. An appealing supple texture. Very good length. The palate sees notes of ginger and citrus emerge. A really attractive Eden Valley Chardonnay with another five to six years ahead of it

A pale straw-yellow tint in the light. Subtle lemon drop, and lime leaf aromas. Bright and fresh pineapple and citrus fruits at the centre whilst a cut green herb note sits over the top. Good acidity ensures it's focused and carries good length, where an almond meal note lingers at the finish.

It's hard to believe that you get such cool-climate, crisp and refined character from right next door to the Barossa, but you do. Lovely chardonnay with a high ‘beep’ factor and only 665 cases so you might be too late already.
