The Château Single Vineyard ‘Bethanian’ Shiraz 2022

$40.00 / bottle

From our estate vineyard on the sandy loam soils on Bethany creek. Settled by German immigrants in the 1840s, Bethany, or ‘Bethanian’ as the locals called it is the oldest settlement in the Barossa.

TASTING NOTES
Lifted aromas of blackberry, blueberry and black pepper are supported by spicy, dark berry fruits on the palate. The extensive finish is framed by elegant, fine-grained tannins from maturation in a combination of new and seasoned American and French oak.

Wonderfully fruited and fragrant, the inviting bouquet shows black/blueberry, dark chocolate and toasty oak characters with a spicy overtone. The palate is filled with opulent fruit flavours backed by beautifully pitched tannins, finishing superbly long and delicious. An essential Barossa Shiraz. At its best: now to 2037.

Bethanian is a local name for Bethany, the oldest settlement in the Barossa, dating back to the 1840s. Just 1,000 cases made. From a single vineyard, the wine spent time in a mix of new and older American and French oak.
An inky maroon hue, the nose exhibits plums and licorice with mocha, coffee beans, axle grease and blackfruits. This is a wine with good energy and a generous structure with good opulence. A fine line of acidity carries the wine, with silky tannins on the finish. Seamless, seductive and supple, with excellent length. Expect this to provide pleasure for at least the next eight to ten years.

A deep, concentrated and immensely opulent shiraz that comes from the distinctive Bethany Village, in the heart of the Barossa, Dense blackberry and dark plum on the nose with a lick of dark chocolate. Smooth and slightly earthy palate with a smooth understated tannin influence.
