‘The Everest’ is the pinnacle of Château Tanunda’s wine making philosophy, it represents the ultimate Barossa Shiraz can achieve from the world’s most renowned Shiraz producing region. Uncompromising quality defines this wine, crafted from ultra-quality grapes, hand-picked, basket pressed and neither fined nor filtered and matured in superior French oak barrels. These wines are afforded the utmost attention and craftsmanship in the winery. The Everest is the peak of Barossa winemaking.
The Everest Shiraz 2023 is a dense ruby colour with an intense, enticing nose of rich, blue-black berry fruits and subtle French oak. The wine is incredibly dense and focused with a richness and purity that exudes top-class Barossa Shiraz.
Rich dark chocolate, mocha and cedar spice are all to the fore, but the central core is highly focused. Supple tannins from the gentle press merely complement the fruit, silky and rich yet impressively interwoven into the wine. The fruit/ acid balance ensures excellent length and provides a purity of structure for long-term ageing.
Only the very best grapes are selected from individual vineyard blocks in exceptional vintages. Hand-picked, hand-sorted to 1 ton open fermenters with regular hand-plunging and careful basket pressing. The highest quality parcels from this year’s fermented wines are set aside for 18 months of maturation in the finest French oak.
Once bottled the wine spends a further 18 months maturing in our cellars before release.

The bouquet is alluring and inviting, with dark-fruit intensity, star anise, clove, espresso, rich floral, and cedar characters. It's concentrated and mouth-filling on the palate, delivering outstanding power and persistence. Wonderfully framed by lavish texture and loads of grainy tannins, making it robust and sturdy with a prolonged, structured finish. It's captivating and sensually satisfying with grace and sophistication. At its best: 2033 to 2053.

The fruit for this exceptional wine comes from low-yielding vines. It's treated carefully from go to whoa, with time on skins in open fermenters and then regular hand plunging to ensure that the tannins integrate perfectly within the vibrant spicy red fruits. It shows that shiraz doesn't have to be a monster. It can still deliver wonderful complexity and flavour intensity with lower, lighter body, and this is a perfect example. It's juicy, it's delicious, and it has plenty of years ahead.

This is the Estate’s flagship red. Just 400 bottles made. Under cork. The wine will spend around a year and a half maturing in the very best French oak. Dark maroon in colour, there is still plenty of oak evident here, but integration is proceeding well. Rich and plush, this is a most generous style with notes of chocolate, mocha, cold tea, black fruits, cassis, coffee beans and plums. A supple texture with impressive length and immaculate balance through to the silkiest of tannins. An absolutely cracking Barossa Shiraz which will provide at least twenty years of pleasure. A wine which has now established itself as a Barossa icon and this is one of the best they have made. 2026-2046

An opaque, inky red colour in the glass. Heady aromas of stewed plum, pudding spice, dried herbs, mocha, anise, violets and sweet oak.
Powerful, concentrated, mouth-filling and with plenty of dark fruited drive. There's a decent lick of tannin and snappy acidity shaping the palate and tempering the opulent fruit.
