Sydney, 11th July 2025
We are thrilled to share a landmark moment for Château Tanunda as we welcomed the Hon. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to our Sydney Cellar Door at The Rocks last week, alongside our Managing Director Michelle Geber.
This special visit offered a unique opportunity to showcase the best of Château Tanunda, including our Grand Barossa range — our most popular wine — and our celebrated Old Vine Heritage, representing some of the oldest wine-producing vines in the world.
In a proud moment for our family-owned winery, Michelle Geber opened the Prime Minister’s press conference, where he offered words that powerfully highlighted the significance of our history and wines;
“Thank you to Château Tanunda for having us here at their cellar door in historic The Rocks — an appropriate place, given the age of the vines in the Barossa Valley. These are some of the oldest wine vines in the world, producing, in my view, the best wine in the world.”
— Hon. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese
The visit and press conference were broadcast nationwide, with major television, print, and digital media outlets featuring Château Tanunda wines front and centre. This moment of recognition comes as we proudly celebrate our 135th Anniversary Year — a milestone not only for Château Tanunda but for the entire Barossa Valley.
Media coverage included:
- Channel 7, 9, 10 and SBS national news bulletins
- ABC News and Sky News
- The Australian, Daily Telegraph, Wine Business Magazine
- Drinks Trade, The Shout, Food & Beverage Industry News
- Winetitles Daily Wine News
- Château Tanunda and Michelle Geber’s LinkedIn and social channels
- Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s social media
Adding to the excitement, Château Tanunda was just ranked #7 in the Hottest 100 Wine Brands in Australia for 2025 by Drinks Trade, based on Nielsen data. We are one of just three family-owned wineries to be recognised — a clear reflection of the brand’s growing relevance, reach, and connection with customers.
These incredible moments are only possible thanks to the passion and commitment of our extended Château Tanunda family — from our team on the ground to the partners and retailers who bring our wines to life every day.
