Chateau Tanunda announces 2021 Collection Release for 20th October 2021

CHÂTEAU TANUNDA ANNOUNCES 2021 COLLECTION RELEASE for 20th OCTOBER 2021

Château Tanunda, Icon of the Barossa, has announced the launch of their 2021 Collection Release on 20th October 2021. The sought-after collection includes new vintage releases of the highly awarded ‘The Everest’, ‘Old Vine Expressions’ and ‘Terroirs of the Barossa’ ranges.

The wines of the Château Tanunda collection make up some of the most coveted Australian wines by collectors internationally.

Leading the release is the flagship The Everest Range: The Everest Shiraz 2018 (RRP $330) and The Everest Old Vine Grenache 2018 (RRP $330). With a respective production of just 1200 and 400 bottles, these highly collectable wines have been sought out year after year since the first vintages were awarded ‘Worlds Best Shiraz’ and ‘Worlds Best Single Vineyard Red’ at the IWSC in 2010. The 2018s are no exception, with one of the first reviews calling them a “wine with remarkable density…backed by a pure line of acidity…richly flavoured and balanced. Impressive…” Andrew Caillard MW”

Following are the wines from the rare and collectable ‘Old Vine Expressions’ range, a celebration of great Barossa Old Vines with wines from iconic 50, 100 and 150 year old vineyards. These vineyards are revered for their high-quality fruit and deep root structure, bringing a diversity of flavour and character.

Highly anticipated is the 2017 vintage release of the 150 Year Old Vines 1858 Field Blend (RRP $500). A cult wine, this unique field blend planting of Grenache, Mourvedre and Malbec is from one of the oldest single vineyard sites anywhere in the world.

Barossa Shiraz is well represented with the 100 Year Old Vines Shiraz 2018 (RRP $160) and the 50 Year Old Vines Shiraz 2018 (RRP $80), setting the standard for masterful Barossa Old Vine Shiraz. The 2018 Barossa vintage has been described as ‘one to savour’, which shows in the quality of both of these exceptional 2018 releases.

Chief Winemaker, Neville Rowe, said: “The release of these wines is a rewarding time for me as a winemaker. Nurturing these wines from the vineyard to the bottle then to release, the 2021 collection wines stack up as some of the finest wines produced at Château Tanunda. The 150 Year Old Vines Semillon (RRP $70) and 150 Year Old Vines Grenache, Mourvedre, Malbec Field Blend vineyards have been producing great wines for a century and a half, which makes me a proud custodian of that legacy.”

The release also sees the latest from the acclaimed ‘Terroirs of the Barossa’ Shiraz range from Eden Valley and Ebenezer District vineyards (RRP $60) and the Single Vineyard ‘The Château’ range (RRP $38) selected from high-quality vineyards across the Barossa region.

Château Tanunda winemaking epitomises the finest that modern hand-crafted winemaking has to offer. It is minimalistic, using small open fermenters, gentle basket pressing and aging in the finest oak to ensure the unique qualities of the vines are embodied in the wines. These rare and collectable wines have proven to cellar well.

The official release date of the wines is the 20th October 2021, with online and live tasting events planned to follow both in the Barossa and at the soon-to-open Château Tanunda Sydney Cellar Door in the Rocks.
