MD Michelle Geber shares the secrets to global export success in The Drinks Business

Château Tanunda is proud to be featured in The Drinks Business, where our Managing Director, Michelle Geber, shared her insights on what it takes to succeed on the global export stage.

Recently named South Australian Wine Exporter of the Year 2025 at the Premier’s Business and Export Awards, Michelle outlined the five key principles that have shaped our international growth:

  1. Prioritise quality over volume – Every bottle must reflect the integrity and trust that Château Tanunda embodies.
  2. Start where you can make an impact – Focus on markets where you can build momentum, no matter their size.
  3. Practice authentic storytelling – Share your heritage and values in ways that resonate with each market.
  4. Be culturally aware – Understand how your wines fit into local preferences, cuisines, and lifestyles.
  5. Stay adaptable – From packaging to marketing, flexibility is key in navigating diverse markets.

Château Tanunda’s export journey began in 1890 when wines were first shipped from the Barossa to Europe. Today, more than 135 years later, our wines are enjoyed in over 35 countries worldwide – a legacy that continues to grow thanks to our dedicated team, old vine heritage, and commitment to excellence.
