Renowned Master of Wine, Andrew Caillard, has released his The Vintage Journal: 2024 Barossa Wine Guide, rating 12 Chateau Tanunda wines 90-97 Points.
The rare and collectable The Everest Shiraz 2021 lead the way with 97 Points, along with the 150 Year Old Vines Grenache 2019 with 96 Points, and the Grand Barossa Shiraz 2022 also at 96 Points, banking its highest-ever rating.
97 Points – The Everest Shiraz 2021
Deep crimson. Intense blackberry dark chocolate aromas with roasted
chestnut notes. Richly concentrated blackberry pastille, praline, roasted
chestnut marzipan, demi-glace flavours, fine loose-knit chocolaty
textures and well-balanced acidity. Beautifully crafted wine with lovely
density, richness and vigour. Drink now–2038
96 Points – 150 YOV Grenache 2019
Medium crimson, Attractive musky red plum, strawberry aromas with
some savoury notes. Beautifully concentrated and complex with supple
red berry fruits, slinky textures, lovely mid-palate viscosity and fresh long
acidity. A touch of aniseed at the finish. Drink now–2029
96 Points – Grand Barossa Shiraz 2022
Deep crimson. Pure ripe blackberry, cassis aromas with herb garden
aniseed notes. Inky deep and flowing palate with generous ripe
blackberry, blackcurrant fruits and superbly integrated tannins and
savoury oak. Finishes inky, minerally and dry. Superb early drinking style.
Punching well above its weight. Drink now–keep for a while.
95 Points – 100 Year Old Vines Semillon 2023
Pale colour. Fresh pure lemon curd, grapefruit, tonic water aromas.
Generous and creamy with ample lemon, grapefruit, hint nectarine
flavours, fine slinky bittersweet textures and fresh long mineral/quartz
acidity. A refreshing style with lovely fruit definition, complexity and
vivacity. Should develop very well. Drink now–2028
95 Points – 50 Year Old Vines Cabernet Sauvignon 2021
Medium-deep crimson. Classical blackcurrant vanilla aromas with a hint
of bush garrigue. Well concentrated blackcurrant, dark plum, hint roasted
chestnut, marzipan flavour and long fine-grained tannins. Finishes claret
firm with some leafy notes. Drink now–2032
95 Points – 50 Year Old Vines Shiraz 2021
Deep crimson. Fragrant musky dark cherry, vanillin marzipan aromas.
Very well balanced with deep-set dark cherry, mocha, roasted almond
flavours and beautifully integrated chocolaty firm tannins. Finishes
chalky and minerally with a twist of aniseed. A lovely well-balanced
wine. Drink now–2030
94+ Points – Terroirs of the Barossa Greenock Shiraz 2022
Medium-deep crimson. Blackberry, chinotto, hint negroni-like aromas
with liquorice notes. Supple blackberry, strawberry, cola, liquorice
flavours, very good mid-palate volume and fine chalky/chocolaty
tannins. Firms up to a bittersweet finish. Very good density and flow.
Should have wide appeal. Drink now–2032
94 Points – The Château Single Vineyard Shiraz 2022
Medium-deep crimson. Lovely pure blackberry, dark chocolate aromas
with roasted walnut notes. Generously concentrated wine with abundant
dark berry fruits, some dark chocolate/red liquorice notes and fine loose
knit chocolaty textures. Some savoury roasted walnut/chicory notes at
the finish. Drink now–2030
93 Points – Terroirs of the Barossa Eden Valley Shiraz 2022
Medium-deep crimson. Intense blackberry, dark liquorice aromas with
roasted walnut notes. Inky deep wine with pure blackberry, hint tobacco,
aniseed flavours and fine slinky textures. Voluminous with ample fruit
sweetness and vigour. Black liquorice at the finish. Touch sweet. Drink
now–2032
93 Points – Grand Barossa Dry Riesling 2024
Pale colour. Classic chamomile, pure lime aromas with hint slatey notes.
Pure, tight and minerally with lime cordial, camomile, crispy apple
flavours and fresh linear acidity. A touch of torque at the finish. Racy and
refined wine with superb length. Let it age for a year. Drink 2025–2035
92 Points – The Château Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2022
Medium crimson. Blackcurrant, chinotto, herb aromas with hints of
cedar. Fresh cassis, cola flavours, fine loose-knit grainy tannins, attractive
mid-palate richness and underlying savoury notes. Finishes firm and

Medium-deep crimson. Red cherry, chinotto aromas with roasted walnut
notes. Flavourful and slurpy, with fresh red cherry, red plum, cola fruits,
