50 Year Old Vines Shiraz 2021 (in Gift Box)

A sumptuous offering, the enticing bouquet shows black and purple fruit intensity, star anise, olive and toasty oak characters with a touch of cocoa. The palate offers opulent richness together with velvety mouthfeel and loads of polished tannins, making it robust and plush at the same time. At its best: now to 2039.

Deep crimson. Fragrant musky dark cherry, vanillin marzipan aromas. Very well balanced with deep-set dark cherry, mocha, roasted almond flavours and beautifully integrated chocolaty firm tannins. Finishes chalky and minerally with a twist of aniseed. A lovely well-balanced wine. Drink now–2030

A similar method of winemaking as to the 2020, culminating in two years maturing in a mix of new and older French oak. The fruit is, again, from Marananga, Light’s Pass and Bethany.
The colour here is an opaque black/maroon. The nose has aromas of aniseed, florals, blackcurrants, chocolate and earth all swirling around. Leather, cloves and soy as well. This is rich, powerful and concentrated. There is good length through to sleek tannins. The palate sees notes of coffee beans and mocha emerging. A seriously good Barossa red, with ten to twenty years ahead of it.

This was a very good vintage in the Barossa, and it’s highlighted beautifully with this smoothly defined and elegantly presented Shiraz. Loads of dark fruit characters on the nose lead into the intense driven palate. Has an effortless palate structure extending to a very long finish. Drink by: 2024-2039

Old-vine shiraz, 50 years of age, matured in French oak for 20 months, that sits in the classic Barossan style. Rich blackberry, plum and mulberry fruits with underlying baking spice, licorice, black olive, dark chocolate, panforte, wood spice and earth. Cedar, vanillin and tobacco come in on the palate along with fine, sandy tannins and a medium-length finish with red fruit and leathery/earthy nuance. Drink By 2035

This 2021 Shiraz opens with a generous serve of blackberry, kirsch and cola with leathery undertones. Compact and young, a little bit of teenage angst right now with its youthful energy, tangy acid and slightly hard tannins leading the way but this should settle nicely with a couple more years under its belt. Drink by: 2027-2035

A top vintage meets top winemaking and the result is a harmonious pleasure. Arrives fully integrated and, in keeping with the Château Tanunda style, while there is obvious power there is also sophistication. The winemaker should be congratulated for beautifully bringing to life some fabulous fruit blessed in rich black berries, aniseed, ground cinnamon, clove, undergrowth and earth. Moves seamlessly on to a smooth, velvety palate where tannins are ripe but supple, allowing for easy flowing progress through the mouth before finishing long and lingering. There’s a lot here to like and enjoy. Drink by: 2024-2042
