The Château Riesling 2009

Tasting Notes

The wine has delicate floral citrus notes on the nose. Lemon, lime and hints of passion fruit are all here in abundance. The palate is focussed, pure and linear with a delicious juicy lime fruit finish. Elegant and intense with a touch of minerality.

Winemaking

Handpicked early in the morning, the fruit was delivered cool to the winery. Gentle pressing to minimise phenolics and cold settling preceeded a long, cool fermentation averaging 14°C. After a short fermentation the wine was bottled soon after to retain freshness and vivacity.

Vineyard Notes

A single Vineyard wine - One outstanding vineyard block is chosen to represent the Eden Valley Riesling. 2009 is the second Eden Valley release and this particular block is adjacent to the 2008 block.

It’s not a bad strategy getting your new vintage Rieslings out early because naturally your average wine writer or Riesling fancier will quickly take the bait, being curious as to the nature of the latest vintage. It’s pretty with some bath time fun florals, lime and white peach fruity but lemon pithy and particularily dry on exit - laying down a long a path of river pebbles on the finish. It’s a very good wine and augurs well for the vintage. I’d most likely drink it young and punchy over the next couple of years, but I’d expect it should cellar well enough too.  Rated : 92 Points  Tasted : Jul09  Alcohol : 11.5%  Price : $20  Closure : Screwcap  Drink : 2009 - 2012+
'It's a very smart wine'..

Spring is in the air and with it comes the release of this bright and breezy riesling from the cool-climate Eden Valley. It’s a very smart wine, aromatic and youthful with perfumed notes on the nose, citrus lemon and lime flavours on the palate, a lively acidic backbone and a crisp, dry finish. Drink with freshly shucked oysters.

A refreshing, low-alcohol (11.5 per cent) Eden Valley Riesling with a classically floral aroma and a delicately fruity palate. It’s flavoursome and already accessible, with softness and balance, a clean finish and enough acidity toguarantee it some ageing potential. Now to six years.90/100
