Terroirs of The Barossa Lyndoch Shiraz 2012

Tasting Notes

From a vineyard in the southern end of the Barossa, this 2012 Shiraz is full of soft, dark cherry fruit with rich kirsch like notes, dark chocolate and spicy oak. The palate is textured and layered, with the dark berry fruit aromas again coming to the fore. The palate has a long finish, complimented by defining oak tannins.

Winemaking

The grapes were destalked (separating berries from the bunch) and placed uncrushed into small stainless steel open fermenters. A cultured yeast was used to start the fermentation and the tanks were hand plunged spending 7 days on skins at 28° C. Further maturation in a mixture of French and American Oak for 18 months has resulted in a wine of great structure and finesse.

“For my tastes, the best of the three Terroir wines this vintage. Plush, chocolate and cherry, fleshy with round tannin, even acidity and plenty of impact. Raspberry pip and chocolate, tangy sort of orange rind finish. Lush and buff. Not subtle, but good at its game.”

Sourced from the 20-year-old Semmler Vineyard, the fermentation treatment, and likewise the barrel maturation, following the standard practices for the Terroirs of the Barossa range, and, once again, 500 dozen made. Blackberry and dark plum fruit has nuances of licorice and sweet earth woven through it, the intense palate medium-bodied, and with great drive.

Top 30 Shiraz
Review by: Nick Ryan, Selector Magazine
"The top wine of many this producer had in the Top 30.  Vanilla, sweet spice and mocha-like dark plum fruit aromas.  Concentrated black fruit power on the palate yet it retains restraint and finesse courtesy of fine honey acid and tannin balance with lifted peppery spice notes."
