Tasting Notes

3 Blocks of low yielding Old Vine Shiraz were specially chosen for this unique blend. All of the blocks were planted in 1960 and so the vines are over 50 years old - Château Tanunda Bethany and Vine Vale vineyards along with the Hage family vineyard in Nuriootpa were all selected.

Barossa On Song True blue. Barossan to its guts. A striking wine for ‘general’ regionality and in a style I like for generosity yet more savoury nuances of the region. No disappointment here. Smoky wafts open the wine, then black and red currants, mocha, nougat oak and some earthy, savoury stuff too. Great layering of flavour in the mouth - starts with sweet, stewed fruit characters, gets a caress of cedary oak then slips away to a touch more savoury spice before finishing with nuttiness and anise. Great medium-to-full weight in the mouth and a concentrated juiciness that is undeniably pleasing but not overdone. Touch of the Old Skool and great to see it. Super value too. Drink: 2011-2021

Full red-purple; blackberry, plum and vanilla oak aromas lead into a gently savoury, medium-bodied palate, with positive tannins providing good structure and mouthfeel. From 50-year-old vines. Drink By: 2023 Date Tasted: 30 Nov 2011
