Barossa Tower Shiraz Primitivo 2010

Tasting Notes

Our house style of Barossa Shiraz, lifted aromas of blackberry, plum and black pepper with spicy, dark berry fruits on the palate has benefited from the addition of Primitivo, native to southern Italy, adding vibrant cranberry, raspberry and strawberry flavours. The finish is long with fine grained tannins from eighteen months maturation in oak.

Winemaking

This unique blend is sourced from our growers’ vineyards in the Barossa sub-regions of Bethany, Kalimna (bush vine Primitivo), Lyndoch, Stonewell, Tanunda and Vine Vale. The grapes were de-stemmed, but not crushed, and were fermented separately spending seven days on their skins in open fermenters with regular hand plunging and pumping over to more gently extract colour, flavour and tannin. This was followed by careful basket pressing and malolactic fermentation in a combination of new and seasoned American and French oak hogsheads prior to eighteen months’ maturation in our cellars.

Gold Medal
Review by: New Zealand International Wine Show, New Zealand International Wine Show
In 2012, 2122 entries were received from thirteen countries and a record 224 gold medals were awarded. The reason for the high percentage of gold medals is entirely due to the quality of the entries. In particular the wines sent in by Australian wineries were simply stunning. The team of judges had never encountered so many high quality, high profile wines on the judging table before.
